If you aren't an idiot, the answer to this should be no of course not, but I find it troubling how many people would say yes to this. Many people always say stuff like, "when I was a dumb teenager...." or "when I was young and stupid....", and I find it so so weird. Why do people associate intelligence with age?
I'm not saying everyone under 18 is smart. Yes, some under eighteen year olds are stupid so are a lot of over eighteen year olds. In fact, at any age one will find those who are intelligent and those who are stupid. Associating intelligence with people over eighteen is just another way we are being oppressed. It is sad how our culture does this.
People saying everyone under eighteen is stupid, is like me saying everyone between 40-45 is stupid. This wouldn't make any sense. One would think I was crazy. This is how I feel when someone associates youth with intelligence. It doesn't make any sense.
Yes, we can. Although it will be very difficult. The current society believes that the youth doesn't matter. They don't think our opinions matter. They don't think we should have a right to privacy. They don't think we should vote. To make a difference, we need to change this mentality.
Just like the women's rights activists and black right's activists changed the cultural mentality and gained their rights, we can gain ours. We have been oppressed for WAY too long. It is time for us to take a stand and demand equal rights! Yes, I said equal rights with those who are older than us.
In four years, we will have another election. My hope and goal is that the youth will be able to vote in that election. I am willing to do whatever it takes to make that happen. Are you? Whether you be adult or youth, you need to start standing up for youth rights. Share this site with ours. Share other youth rights site with others.
We need to get out there and take a real stand. I really hope that one day people won't discriminate on age. It really doesn't make sense. I hope that one day in the future the youth will have all the rights as everyone else. The only question is are you ready for this change?
If you ask someone this, they will most likely say yes, but they won't usually believe this. I, as a sixteen year old, am very into politics. For instance, when people were talking about the election this year my opinion was never taken seriously. I was always told that I will realize I am wrong as I get older.
The truth is, however, that we as youth are offering a different insight into the world. Unfortunately, our opinions aren't considered though. For example, the election comes to mind again. We are effected just as much as anyone else is, yet we don't have any rights in the election process. (I am righting a persuasive essay on why the youth should vote in English class, and I am going to post it on this website soon.)
Basically, there are many, many opinions I do not agree with from people that happen to be older than me, but I always consider their opinion. I always take their opinion into consideration. I may not change my view, but I will do more research on what I believe to make sure it is right. I only ask that in return people consider what I have to say.
To the youth reading this, you do matter. Your opinion matters just as much as anyone else's.
